Our Whole30 experience.... so far

On July 29th, we, as a family (80% of us) started to follow the Whole30 plan. What is that? Well, here are a few descriptions:
  • Wikipedia:
    • The Whole30 is a 30-day fad diet that emphasizes whole foods and the elimination of sugar, alcohol, grains, legumes, soy, and dairy.
    • Although lots of people use Whole30 as a nutritional reset, Hartwig says it’s actually a lot more than that. The program requires you to remove things from your diet that are commonly linked with food sensitivitiescravingsdisrupted hormonespoor sleep, and a host of other issues. “The Whole30 is a 30-day experiment designed to teach you how the foods you’ve been eating are impacting how you feel, how you look, and your quality of life,” Hartwig says. (Author of the book)

    • Whole30 is a program designed to include more whole foods into your diet. The plan lasts for 30 days, and after it's completed, its creators advise slowly introducing eliminated items back into your diet, one at a time. The goal is to understand what sensitivities you might have with certain foods.
The plan is based on a couple books by Melissa Hartwig: here are a few...
  • The Whole30: The 30-Day Guide to Total Health and Food Freedom
  • It Starts with Food: Discover the Whole30 and Change Your Life in Unexpected Ways
  • Food Freedom Forever: Letting Go of Bad Habits, Guilt and Anxiety Around Food
There appears to be 9 books by Melissa and I would imagine dozens of offshoots from that body of work.
Today starts the 17th day... The first few were the toughest, for Troy because he didn't read the book and my instructions were not clear enough. He has gotten A LOT better! He has embraced this process.
We are both feeling better when we wake up in the morning and seeing an increase in our energy levels.

It's getting exciting! I've noticed that my hands are not swollen when I wake up in the mornings, my skin is looking pretty good, AND my stomach appears MUCH less bloated!

On the downward slope now!
'Til next time!
